The World Series has been played since 1905. Here are some of the highlights from its history.
SAN DIEGO — The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in seven games to win their first World Series title since 2020. The Series featured a number of exciting moments, including Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 1.
Stephen Strasburg put two impressive lines on his Hall of Fame resume by winning a pair of road starts during the World Series. He led the NL in innings pitched and earned World Series MVP honors after his microscopic 1.98 ERA.
With a 7-6 lead in the eighth, the Dodgers needed a few more runs to extend their winning streak to four games. They got them from their bullpen, with Blake Treinen pitching a perfect seventh and striking out Giancarlo Stanton to end the game with Los Angeles up 7-6.
When the Series returned to Yankee Stadium for Game 5, the Dodgers were favored by 2.5 games. But the Yankees were determined to take this one back home and prevent the Dodgers from becoming the first team in history to have a four-game sweep of them. They were successful, but not before a thrilling Game 5. The USA TODAY app gets you to the heart of news — fast.
