The Masters Leaderboard at Augusta National Golf Club

Byron Nelson made an unlikely Masters champion with a birdie on the final hole in 1922, but it was just as much of a surprise when Mike Weir won in 2003 as he became the first left-hander to win a major. The next year, Bubba Watson won on the second playoff hole against Louis Oosthuizen to claim his first Masters title. And in 2011, unheralded South African Charl Schwartzel won by two strokes.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is still in contention to win his second green jacket and complete the career grand slam but needed two putts from 15 feet on the 18th for par after starting his round with a bogey at the ninth. He finished the front nine with birdies on holes three and four but made a double-bogey at the 14th after a poor tee shot into the fairway bunker.

Bryson DeChambeau is the leader by one shot after a 6-under 66 in round two, followed by Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners at 10-under. They are joined by Ludvig Aberg, who birdied the first and last holes, while defending champion Jordan Spieth is a shot further back in a tie for fourth with Tyrrell Hatton, whose second-round 67 was the day’s best round. Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa and Joaquin Niemann are also at 7-under after rounds of 71, 68 and 70 respectively. The field will be trimmed to the top 10 after round three and the chase for the coveted green jacket is set to begin.
