According to the IPCC report, Earth’s temperature has risen an average of 1.1 degrees Celsius since the end of the 19th century. This is causing climate shifts in various parts of the world, including more frequent droughts in some areas and floods in others. In the agricultural sector, climate change is affecting crop yields significantly. Plants such as rice and corn are very sensitive to temperature and humidity. Movements such as “Fridays for Future” and “Extinction Rebellion” are in the international spotlight, with millions of young people participating in demonstrations demanding more action to tackle the climate crisis. On the policy side, many countries are starting to implement stricter environmental regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Paris Agreement, signed by almost all countries in the world, is an important step in an international agreement to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. The impacts of climate change also include challenges to human health. Rising temperatures and changing weather patterns worsen air quality and create ideal conditions for the spread of disease. For example, diseases such as malaria and dengue fever are expected to increase in some regions due to climate change. In a security context, climate change poses a threat to global political stability. Competition over dwindling resources such as clean water can trigger conflict between countries. This makes climate change not only an environmental issue, but also a strategic challenge for many governments. Finally, international collaboration becomes very crucial in dealing with the impacts of climate change. Cooperation between developed and developing countries in research, technology and resources can help reduce and adapt to existing impacts. With a holistic and integrated approach, the world can move towards a more sustainable future, even though huge challenges still lie ahead.
