World Series Highlights From the 1993 Fall Classic

World Series highlights

When the World Series resumes this weekend, baseball fans will get to witness two teams that have a lot to share. Whether it’s the story of the Cubs ending their 108-year drought or the triumphant return of a beloved star, the potential matches offer something for every fan. And with the eight remaining teams, there are a lot of potential World Series matchups that could happen in October.

One of the underrated World Series matchups in recent years is the 1993 Fall Classic, which featured the most exciting game in MLB history with Joe Carter’s famous walk-off three-run homer to defeat the Boston Red Sox. But there were a number of memorable moments in the Series as well, from Reggie Jackson’s record five home runs to Don Larsen’s perfect game.

The first big moment came early as a flaccid New York Yankees offense made three egregious errors in the fifth inning to allow Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty to take a 3-0 lead. But Freddie Freeman would tie the game with a two-run single and Teoscar Hernandez delivered a tying double on a first-pitch fastball from Flaherty to send the game into extra innings.

That set up Walker Buehler, the Game 3 winner on three days’ rest, to come in and close it out if necessary. But in the ninth inning, he was pulled after just one out and replaced by Blake Treinen, who had been on a day’s rest as well.
