Rory McIlroy is two shots off the lead at The Masters after a second-round four-under 66. But he’s still a very dangerous player with plenty of chances to get the Green Jacket on Sunday at Augusta National.
McIlroy, who shot a three-under 67 on Friday after a tough start, made five birdies in his round and avoided any bogeys at all during his round on Saturday. His only mistake came on the 13th hole when he chose to lay up instead of going for the green in two and ended up with a bogey.
But he still has a chance to win his fifth major title and complete his career grand slam. It’s the only one he doesn’t have and if he can put up another round like this on Sunday, the odds will be in his favour.
Jordan Spieth spoke about not looking at a scoreboard during his Masters run, stating that it was a good strategy to play your own golf unfettered by the scores of others. We think he’s right and we wish all players could follow suit.
A few familiar faces are close behind McIlroy, including 2021 champion Hideki Matsuyama and 2018 winner Patrick Reed at T12. Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Collin Morikawa are also tied for sixth place.
